does a retail company have the right to take money from your check (preset amount) for not asking a customer about the new credit card the company is trying to sell? they presumably will take out $5.00 for everyone you do not mention the card to.

You should politely speak with your supervisor and ask to see the policy in writing. Probably the only claim you might have would be if the deductions lowered your pay below minimum wage.
