Legal Question in Technology Law in Pennsylvania

egroups copywrite laws

if you are in an egroup and you post something written by another person, and you state authors name and where you obtained the information, is this a violation of copywrite laws. I am in a group where the owner became upset over a person posting a recipe from a book, she listed the authors name and the title of the book..

Re: egroups copywrite laws

Could be. Giving credit to the author does not excuse a violation of copyright.

Do a Google search on "fair use copyright" to learn more. The question of whether you can quote an excerpt from a book, etc., is very complex, beyond the scope of an answer here.
