Legal Question in Construction Law in Pennsylvania

What payment on a bid a legal contract

I put in a bid for a remodeling job. I began work and completed 80-85% of the work. I was replaced by another contractor after I was told I could take a couple of months off when my first child was born. The time off lasted 1 week before the phone started ringing. I was uninformed that someone was finishing the job and now have some supplies and tools missing.

The job consisted of 4 apartments of varying sizes.

I divided the bill in 4 for convinience sake, and not on the quantity of work performed.I have been paid about 75% of the bid but have done abut 85% of the work. Is payment of part of the bid a legal contract to finish ? I am also out supplies that I bought in bulk assuming I would use them on the last apartment, can I reclaim these costs? This was a friend of the family and I was filling in for a contractor that was fired. This is not my choosen profession, but a part time effort which was known in advance. Please advise.

Re: What payment on a bid a legal contract

If you were given permission to stop work because of your pregnancy, you may have a claim for any lost profits you sustained as a result of being replaced. On the other hand, if you stopped work without permission the owner would be justified in replacing you and you might be held liable for any increased cost to the owner.
