Legal Question in Consumer Law in Pennsylvania

Destruction of personal property

I am a member of a health and

fitness club. While I was swimming,

another member wrongly concluded

that her coat was in my locked

locker. The staff did not attempt to

find the owner of the lock (I was at

the pool in the next room). They

destroyed my lock. After the other

person saw that her coat was not in

my locker, everyone left with my

locker unsecured and no attempt to

secure it temporarily or even a note.

My purse, jewelry, and clothes were

in this unlocked locker. (After I

requested it, they did replace my

lock, but that is not the issue.) My

question is: Is it legal to destroy my

lock while I am nearby and it was

not an emergency and no drugs or

contraband was suspected? I don't

intend to sue, I just want to know

what the law says about this.

Thanks. (In chosing the ''area of

law'' listed below, I am not sure if I

chose correctly.)

Re: Destruction of personal property

They may be able to do this. Your contract with them may allow them to remove locks without notice. I'd forget about it and be happy that they compensated me for my lock.
