Legal Question in Consumer Law in Pennsylvania

A neighbor called 911 when my daughters car caught up on fire as she was trying to get up the icy driveway. She got out fine. A year later she gets a bill from the volunteer fire department for $1400.00 for this incident. Legally do we have to pay this for a volunteer fire dept to come out. We in addition to paying state taxes pay muncipal and county taxes as well. thank you

Usually, your own insurance company would be responsible for this payment if you have comprehensive coverage. Otherwise, it is probably legal, as the volunteer fire department is generally not maintained by the state or the municipality, but may receive some funding from them. You should contact the volunteer fire department and ask them the legal basis for such charges. In many communities, people who contribute to the volunteer fire company are not charged for such services.
