Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

collection harassment

I am making consistentpaymenst to a collection agency. I keep receiving very rude calls from the same man there. he has called me at work even though I told him not to. I refuse to speak with him and have requested in writing that he not call me and that I would be happy to work with someone else. I wrote that I could not pay the original agreed amount, stated what I could pay and have been doing so for months. When the man calls me and I try to ask why he is calling whn I continue to pay and he says things like''do you know how ridiculous you sound'', etc. He has hung up on me twice as I was trying to talk to him. He typically cuts me off, will not let me speak and has never been polite to me. I want to know how to get him to stop calling me. I told him that I wouyld only comunicat with him by mail and they do send me a monthly statement showing my payments.

Thank you,

Re: collection harassment

All collection agencies must follow the guidelines set out in the fair debt collection act, which is federal law. You may want to remind him of this, however most collectors do not even know what it is. You can find it by doing an internet search. Many times a short letter from an attorney will let them know you mean business, especially if you are already paying. Should you decide to go down that path, you can contact my firm and I will clarify your rights to this agency.
