Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

Collections

I have been receiving letters from a collection agency regarding a 4 thousand dollar debt which I had incurred, I lost my job a few years back and fell into this credit card debt. I know have a job that pays low but its a job, the creditors called and asked how much of a payment I can pay monthly and I told them i can afford 30-50 dollars a month, they advised me this would be not enough and to get another job. The gentlemen also said 360.00 a month would be a sufficent payment but I dont have that money .This credit account was purcahsed out by a law office, and now they sent a letter to the magistrate in luzerne county and now it indicates a judgement will be put against me. If I am willing to pay a monthly payment how can they expect more as long as I am willing to pay? Also what does judgement mean actually and what can they go after asset wise, and how long after a judgement is done do they want the money. Thank you lots..

Re: Collections

If the debt is old you may have defenses such as the statute of limitations or the creditor may have difficulty proving the debt. I have successfully defended numerous debtors in those types of situations. If you have no defenses the creditor if they get a judgment can force a sheriff's sale of your personal property minus statutory exemptions,and/or garnish your bank account. You need to speak with an attorney. I offer free consultations.
