Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

i defaulted on a credit card about 5 years ago. i have recently been contacted by a collection agency threatening legal action. i want to know what legal obligation i have to pay the collection agency when the original company charged the account off and why that original company did not sue me.

It sounds to me like the debt is outside the statute of limitations. You may still get sued but you will have a defense. If the case is clear enough, you may have various counter-claims against the collection agency.
