Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

Debt collection

I have a $2000 civil suit for credit card debt against me. I don't dispute that I owe the money, I just don't have it, especially in a lump sum? How should I plead? Will the judge grant me a payment schedule?

Re: Debt collection

District justice judgments can be entered requiring installment payments.

Have a legal consult before you have to respond, the amount may be negotiable.

Good luck to you.

Often with credit cards, they won't show at the office of the Magisterial District Judge if you notify the MDJ that you wish to enter a defense. Frequently they will try to rely on your testimony and admissions and if you send an attorney to defend, they have no witness and will lose. They can then appeal but for $2,000.00 they may not bother. You may also want to consider defending on the basis of the interest rate that they are claiming.
