Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

Using my name without permission for financial gain

Years ago, I ended a relationship with a guy who stalked me (did not press charges) and smashed my car in. He had a drug problem and went into rehab. After he cleaned up his act, he went to college, but since then had a relapse. I have moved and been married to another for 4 years after dating for 3 years. Recently, my father has been getting phone calls from creditors about my former boyfriend. Apparently, he has lost his house, car and has defaulted on many different loans w/ different loan agencies. It also appears as though he has used my name as a reference, in which these creditors have repeatedly been calling for me at my fathers house (he's 70 years old and very upset by this). I NEVER authorized him to use my name for ANYTHING. I haven't even seen him for the past 11+ years! Are there any legal ramifications for this? Thank you.

Since you don't know who his creditors are, there is nothing you can do to get them to stop calling before they call. However, once they call, tell them not to call back and tell them you haven't been in contact with him for years. Also, get the names/addresses of those calling so that you can write letters to this effect as well. If they call back repeatedly after you give them this information, you may have a harassment complaint, or violation of credit collection law.

While I sympathize with you there is not much you can do but to let the creditors as they call know that you have not seen him for a long time and have no information on him.
