my question is about car loans. My car was stolen and my insurance company paid the loan company $8100.00 but I owe 10,000.00 on it . my question is am I responsable for the rest of the loan if I signed over power of attorney to the insurance company for the title? thank you

Yes. Whether the car was in an accident or stolen, the insurer will only pay out whatever the policy requires, less any deductible. If more is owed on the car, you are liable. Of course, you can always go after the thief, but as a practical matter, its not likely that the thief will have any money.

I know this is not what you wanted to hear, but its my opinion and you are free to seek out others. I am sorry. Your best bet might be to roll this over into the financing on another car if you are strapped, although, I am not a fan of doing this as you very soon find youself upside down on the car loan. Better to look around for a good gently used car and make arrangements with the lender to pay off the $1900 balance.
