Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

Repaying a family member

In July 2007 I left my wife. My Grandmother gave my wife $3,500 to help pay bills and to move. Now I am back with my wife and my mother has convinced my grandmother to collect all the money from my wife or me. There is no signed paperwork other than the check. My grandmother is rich and has given out large amounts of money to numerous members of my family and now my mom has something against me. If they take this to the district justice, will they win and be able to make me pay restitution on that money?
