Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

Am I Responsible for my deceased fathers nursing home debt ?

My father passed February 2010 and had no estate or assets. I signed him in to the nursing home and was power of attorney. Am I liable for this debt?

It depends. How exactly did you sign your father into the nursing home? Read the papers carefully. If you signed as an example "John Smith, Power of Attorney/Agent for Frank Smith" or words to that effect, then you are not liable. If you just signed your own name, then you may have made yourself liable.

Feel free if you want me, for a reasonable fee, to review the papers and contact the nursing home to either tell them to forget it if you are not liable or try to work out a settlement in the event you are liable.
