Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

Being sued by creditor

I have been working with a debt settlement company for almost a year. One of my creditors has now filed a civil suit. I won't deny owing the money, I just can't pay the whole thing at once. Would having a lawyer change the outcome in civil court? Also, the credit card was only in my name, can they hold my husband liable?

Re: Being sued by creditor

Generally, a spouse has the duty to support the other spouse, meaning one is liable for the others debts. Contact the debt settlement company and see if they are willing to speak with the creditor to set up a payment plan. If not contact them yourself and try to work something out. An attorney could help get a settlement more in your favor but then you would have to pay the attorney. I would ask the debt settlement company what they could do for you first. Then you could always speak with an attorney and find out how much they would charge you.
