Bad Checks

I would like to know what the punishment for a first time offense for a bad check in Pennslyvania is?

Thank you

Re: Bad Checks

Unless the amount of the check exceeds $1000, jail time is highly unlikely, but possible. Over $25,000 jail will probably be imposed. Between 1 and 25k is very much in the judges hand.

Re: Bad Checks

Depends upon the amount of the bad check and whether or not you have made good upon the check yet? The police could file charges, however, if you paid the amount and it is less then $1,000.00 you should only receive a fine, but could see jail time. I would recommend immediately retaining an attorney to negotiate any possible charges as soon as possible.
