Legal Question in Criminal Law in Pennsylvania

Do I have to give info to police?

I am in an awkward position. I witnessed a crime - though at the time was unaware that a crime was being committed. It is an instance where a biological mother ''kidnapped'' her daughter (whom was adopted by someone else). The mother has been charged with a felony - interference with child custody. The problem is that the police report is all wrong. It says the girl was staying somewhere and her bio mother was the only one who knew. I know for a fact she was staying with the mother's boyfriend at the time. I know this because I saw her there. The boyfriend KNEW the girl was there illegally. If I don't tell the police, can I be in legal trouble for withholding information? I have not been questioned and am unaware if the boyfriend has or not, but he is probably guilty of the same crime. I'd rather stay out of it all to save my own good name - but I don't want to risk legal action against me. Advice?

Re: Do I have to give info to police?

To save your good name from what? You said you were not aware that there was a crime being committed, so your "name" is not in jeopardy by talking to the police.

You have no legal obligation to talk to the police. However, you may want to search your conscience to determine whether your information will allow the proper thing to be done.

I am in Armstrong County, so if you wish to speak about this, feel free to contact me.
