Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

Messy divorce with property dispute

My husband and I are getting divorced after 16 yrs of marriage. He had 2 affairs on me. We own a house together and when he had his first affair his father insisted on putting his name on our mortgage and deed.

He paid No gift tax and also claims the school and property taxes on his income tax. My inlaws have not paid one dime in upkeep of this house. Are there any legal options for me? I am putting the house up for sale but I do not feel that 25% of this house is worth it.

Thank You for your time and consideration in this matter.

Sincerely

Re: Messy divorce with property dispute

Your divorce lawyer will answer the qustion regarding the value of the property as a "marital asset". Your father in law can't have it both ways. If he owns a portion of the real estate, he has an identical portion of the liability (mortgage). Unless he agrees, you will need to go to court
