Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

Can a person have more than one legal last name?

I wanted to know if I could legally keep my maiden name to use for people who would know me better by that name, but also use my fiancee's name (we will be married in 3 weeks) on documents. Could I legally have two last names? Thank you.

Re: Can a person have more than one legal last name?

A change of name through marriage is only made a matter of record by notifying the authorities at the state, social security, and the like, that you have changed your name. If you do not follow through with these notifications, it will not take place automatically. If you wish to retain your former name generally, and take your husband's name only socially, you can do so. For legal documents of any kind, it will be necessary to use the name you have of record.
