Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Pennsylvania

My fiance' was put in prison one month ago for not paying child support. His wages were just starting to be garnished. He is serving a 6 month sentence. We thing this is unfair since the payments were coming out of his check. We can't afford the $5000 to get him out or to pay a lawyer. I can find no free legal aid since it is a civil charge. I need advice on getting my fiance' released.

First, he had a chance to avoid jail by paying a purge amount often a lot less than the total back support.

Second, why wasn't he current on his support? If he had lost a job he should have filed for a modification. Did he?

Third, he should be on work release so he could go to his job.

Fourth, unless he pays the purge amount he won't be released until his sentence is up.

Fifth, Those who don't learn from the past are condemned to repeat it.
