Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Pennsylvania

don't know what kind of lawyer I need

ok I'm 24 yrs old about 20 yrs ago my parents got divorced they could not agree on who whould get a watch so it was agreed and documented that I would recieve it when I turn 21. my mothers brother held the key it was mailed to me when I turned 21. my dad moved it from the box it was in 20 yrs ago to another and no he says he doesn't know where it is, it's been a few differant places, his wife takes care of that kind of stuff. NOW I have asked for my watch and he is refusing to give it to me, so I am planing on taking him to court but I don't know what kind of lawyer I need. would it be a divorce lawyer since that's where it all started, or would it be wills and estates?? I have never had to do this and I just need some direction. thank you all for your help

How much is this watch worth? Depending upon the answer to that question, you may or may not wish to pursue this. However, it would seem that the claim you have would be a general civil one. It's not really a "family law" matter, and it's not an estate, I would guess, because it doesn't involve an inheritance.

Does your father live in the Pittsburgh area as well? What reason is your father giving for not giving you the watch? How did it get out of the box where it was supposed to be in the first place?

The first thing you have to determine is if it's worth the effort and the money to retrieve the watch.

If you are pursuing this because of the watch's monetary value, you may want to reconsider since the attorney fee will likely exceed the value of the watch. However, if the watch is priceless for other reasons, I will recommend an excellent attorney in your area who I know. Contact Charles Merchant of Merchant, Moorhead & Kay, Pittsuburgh, PA (phone number cannot be listed on this site). [email protected]. Let him know I referred you. Good luck.
