marrying illegal immigrant

American citizen marrying a foreigner who came as a studetns in mid 1990's but staying without extension of legal status for about 10 years now. THe person is clean of police record and has CA resident ID and valid passport. Will marriage to a citizen provide chance for green card to the illegal immigrant?

So long as the foreign national entered the United States legally, he/she is eligible for US permanent residence upon marriage to a U.S. citizen.
