Legal Question in Insurance Law in Pennsylvania

Car as a legacy - What need to do?

My father has died. What need to do now with his car and insurance on it? How to re-register the car on my name if I don't have driver license yet? I'am 21 (have a driver permit and like to take an practical exam).

Please give me your advice.

Re: Car as a legacy - What need to do?

His car passes as part of his estate--either by what he said in his Will, if he had one, or by the laws of intestacy, if he didn't. The Pa. laws of intestate succession are at http://members.aol.com/DKM1/20.Cp.21.html. Check with the Register of Wills at your county courthouse for guidance on procedures for setting up an estate (appointment of the Executor, if there is a Will, or Administrator, if there is not).

Insurance on your father can be canceled through the insurance agent. The car should not be driven by anyone, however, when there is no insurance on it.

You need a driver's license to operate a car but you do not need a license to own one.
