is it okay to drop car insurance?

My significant other has a non-operational vehicle in my driveway. Until now, he has maintained insurance on it. He has told me that he is going to cancel the insurance. As the owner of the property, what are the consequenses to me, should there be an incident involving this vehicle?

He should not drop the insurance if the car is currently registered. An owner of a currently registered car must maintain vehicle insurance, even if the car is inoperable. It's a harsh law but it's the law. There are a variety of bad consequences, including not being able to receive payment for medical bills if hurt in a car crash, even if occupying a different car, & other bad "stuff." Once the annual registration ends he can drop the insurance if the car is not being operated. I'm not sure if he can "deregister" a car before that date - he can check with PennDot. Good luck!
