Legal Question in Insurance Law in Pennsylvania

Non-Injury PD Case....Short Time frame....Should My Ins. Co. cover this claim?

I purchased a new vehicle on Monday April 7th. I signed the papers at 4:30pm. On Tuesday morning I was involved in a weather related accident at 5:30AM. No injuries and i was the only vehicle involved (spun on ice and hit guardrail) I called my insurance co. 6:15AM to report the accident and file a claim. They told me the vehicle was not on the policy and i need to call my agent to add it. so i did as soon as they opened. Now the insurance co. is claiming i did not have full coverage on said vehicle. only liability because thats what the previous vehicles on the policy had. This is my first new vehicle purchase. I was never told by the dealership that i needed to call to have it added. they took my info for verification but never called the ins. co. I was under the impression that they were going to do the transfer for me. i recieved an estimate from a bodyshop that is preferred by the ins. co. and the damage was around $5000.00. By law i need to carry full coverage on the vehicle because there is a lein on the title, but are they required to honor the claim under full coverage due to the time frame, or only on the previous coverages on the policy? Is the dealership ultimitly responsible and not the insurance company?

It would seem that the responsiblity to obtain collision coverage is yours, absent a contract or agreement between you and the dealership.
