Is it possible for someone to patent a video game or copyright a video game

Yes, it is possible to copyright or patent a video game. Copyrights protect original expression. Patents protect embodiments of ideas, to the extent that they are new, non-obvious, and have utility.

Copyright registrations, however, are easier to obtain than patents and also less expensive.

I would recommend that you contact an intellectual property attorney of your choice to pursue matters further.
