Legal Question in Employment Law in Pennsylvania

Company Policy Holder

If I ask my employer for the name of the insurance company that insures the building, are they required to disclose that or can they withhold it. If they provide it, may I contact the insurer with my concern regarding the General Manager`s refusal to correct safety hazards, ever after repeated demands by OSHA. I believe the insurance company should be informed about the existence of unnecessary liabilities within the warehouse. Thank you.

Re: Company Policy Holder

You asked about obtaining the name of the insurer regarding your employer's business facilities.

No good can come of reporting your employer to the insurer. In fact, my educated guess is that you could be fired for doing so. Without obtaining any whistleblower protection.

If there are conditions that require attention they should be brought to the attention of the employer through the proper chain. In small companies that means going up the chain of command. In larger companies there should be a compliance department, safety officer or industrial hygenist that would be responsible for these duties.

If those routes are not useful then you could also file reports with the proper authorities, such as the state or federal OSHA.

Regards,

Roger
