Legal Question in Employment Law in Pennsylvania

Health Insurance

Employed 10 + years with a medium sized corporation. We are client based and have lost clients that have generated approx. one half of our revenue during the past 3 months. Forgone conclusion is that layoffs and firings will happen. Trade publications indicate our clients are moving to other companys for service. My company has remained mum through this whole thing.

Today 4/18 my wife called our dentist to clear up some insurance issues and was informed by the dentis that our coverage would cease the end of the month. The dentist was told that the company was not changing but that insurance for this employee would be ceasing.

Is this legally wrong or just morally/ethically wrong. I expect a severance package from the company and do nopt want to jeopardize it. As I stated the company has not said anything,

Re: Health Insurance

The only suggestion I can make is that you contact the Federal Department of Labor, ERISA division and ask if you should have received notice before your health provided. If so, ask what are the penalties.

Re: Health Insurance

I hope this is not the case, but perhaps your employer has already planned your termination and arranged for your benefits to end when your employment is terminated. Perhaps this is not the case and perhaps it is just a mistake. Either way, I would get in touch with whoever handles employee benefits at your company, tell them what happened, and ask them what is going on. Maybe (I hope) the situation can be cleared up -- at the least, you should be able to find out why this happened.
