My question is about my deceased fathers pension. He passed away quit a few years ago. He was in a large national union and paid into a pension plan for over 30 years along with his union dues. He died suddenly of the cancer he had for some years before he officially retired," although he was of retirement age", he was still working part time. Because his wife had passed away some years before, we were told ,"his three remaining children", by the union, that because of the way his pension plan was set up, we were not entitled to any of the money from his pension. Sincerely, Richard
The answer lies in the plan documents. You may be receiving correct information. You may be able to access the plan documents on a federal government website. Otherwise, your father's estate can request the documents from the plan administrator. You may need to retain an attorney to work through this.
