Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Pennsylvania

My apartment leasing office, in Harrisburg, PA, is holding a contest: pay December rent by Nov 26 and be entered in a drawing to get Jan rent free. The day after the contest ended, the 27th, the deadline was extended to the 30th - which means all you have to do is pay your rent "as usual" and your entered in the contest, so for those who entered as per the original contest rules, such as me (and it can be inconvenient to pay rent a week early when you're unemployed) the leasing office gets free use of their money, with the incentive to pay early greatly minimized by the fact that the odds of winning are much less, since almost everyone will have paid by the 30th anyway. Is this illegal or just shady? And if I go in to retrieve my rent check, which I gave them on the 26th, are they obligated to either give it back or write me a check since it's not legally due until the 1st of December?

You might want to check if there indeed is a winner. Since you paid early for the possibility of not having to pay the rent you can't get your money back
