Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Pennsylvania

Hello, I recently left my job of 6 years for a position elsewhere. While working at that facility, I attended college and graduated with a 2 year degree that did pertain to my job. I used student loans to pay for education and I am still paying on these. I have been told on numerous occasions that my former director is disgruntled that I left because the facility 'paid for my education'. However, the facility did not pay any amout towards my education. Is this defamation character?

It would only be defamation if you suffered actual and provable losses as a result of the false statements.
