settlement of injury from the city

was told after my settlement that I would receive it in a week, to my surprize the attorny said I must wait for 5 months because of the city budget. Can this be true or he needs my 300thous to borrow?

It very well may be true that the city cannot pay the settlement right away. I've heard of settlements with the state being delayed for the same reason.

The settlement check from the city will have your name on it along with your attorney's name so it would be difficult for him to porcess the check without your signature. Also, remember that your attorney is as interested in getting the case resolved quickly because he gets his fee when you get your settlement but the city may be legitimately delaying the settlement for budgetary reasons.
