Original property lines
I am thinking of buying a house from my landlords. The only problem is that they built a part of their house onto the original property. Now they say that they cannot sell, because the original property is no longer the size it was originally bought with. Is this true, and what type of law does this fall under.

No, its not true.
However, to sell you the house they will have to resurvey the property and subdivide it. The potential problem is with the zoning laws. Which will control things like setbacks (distances buildings need to be from the property line) and required lot sizes for your area. It maybe they looked into it and found that there is no way to subdivide the property and comply with the zoning regulations.
