Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Pennsylvania

Subject: previous owner deliquent tax bills still show our current address

We purchased our home in 1999. The previous owners had several deliquent tax situations. After ten years the deliquent bills continue to come to my home in the name of the previous owners. I have written continually to the tax authority and showed up in person to clarify the situation and was told they cannot change the address. How do I remove the previous owner's names from any connection to my property?

You asked about delinquent tax bills.

If these delinquent tax bills are for real property then they are now your responsibility. The fact that they weren't cleaned up either before or at the closing is a problem you can deal with with your lawyer, agent, and title insurer. The old owners would probably have no responsibility for the old tax bills now.

If the bills are for personal property (such as motor vehicles) then you needn't worry about them. The delinquencies would be held against the property that is the subject of the tax.

If it is about real property, speak with a lawyer soon.

Regards,

Roger
