Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Pennsylvania

Dropping Rape Charges

I was raped 1 month ago and decided to press charges. I'm now realizing that this was a bad idea. This trial bs is more traumatizing than the actual crime itself. I just want to get over this, and get on with my life. There have been no threats, and me wanting to drop charges is entirely my own NEED. How do i convince the DA to drop these charges. I have become physically and mentally exhausted despite therapy, and i feel that it is in my best interests for this case to just be dropped. How do i convince the DA to drop these charges?

Re: Dropping Rape Charges

You asked about having charges dropped.

My most sincere condolences on your trauma. No one should ever be treated in such a way.

I also understand the ongoing pain that litigation can cause. You will need to engage counsel to help you with this. It won't be a big fight, but it will be easier on you to have a mouthpiece deal with the DA rather than yourself. The local women's clinics or crisis centers should be able to locate a lawyer to fit your need and pocketbook (meaning low cost or pro bono if necessary).

I must reiterate though that the state has a high interest in prosecuting such cases. While the attack was a crime against your person it is also an attack on the public and is a crime that must be redressed. If only to get this monster off the streets and save someone else from such trauma.

Again, engage someone to act on your behalf and either get the DA to terminate the state action, reign in the DA's intrusions, or remove you from the matter.

You have my sincerest best wishes that you find the strength to deal with this matter.

Regards,

Roger
