Legal Question in Traffic Law in Pennsylvania

I got a speeding ticket in Va for going 74 in a 55 MPH area. I live in PA, should i go to court and fight the ticket (I'm 3 hours away from where I got pulled over)? Will I get points on my license?

Pennsylvania has a compact with other states which would transfer driving penalties assessed elsewhere to a Pennsylvania driver's record here, and this includes Virginia. So yes, points earned in Virginia should transfer here and be placed on your record. I don't how many points, though: each state has its own point system, and sometimes the transfer rate isn't exactly one-to-one.

As for fighting the ticket, that's a pretty long haul to do so. I'd suggest calling the police officer/trooper directly and ask if he/she will voluntarily reduce the miles over to a number that will *not* assess any points in return for you sending in your payment and avoiding a hearing. It may work, and would save you a long trip and points on your Pennsylvania license. Best of luck to you.
