Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Pennsylvania

My uncle has a registered Will that was made in 2008. He has decided to handwrite revisions to that Will, sign it, and have it notarized. Will that be sufficient and legal? He is 83 and still of sound mind. Does not have the money for fees for another Will. The previous one cost him $1500.00.

I'm not sure what you mean by "registered". Wills are filed/probated with the Register of Wills only after a person dies.

Making changes by writing on the original Will invalidates it, and that would leave your uncle's estate to be distributed according to state law, as if he had no Will. He should be able to have a simple will for less than $1500. Simple means that there are no special trust, or lots of separate bequests [leaving specific stuff or money to many different individuals] or other provisions that relate to any special needs he may have. As part of having a Will, he should definitely also have a Durable Power of Attorney, Advance Health Care Directive, often referred to as Living Will, and a Health Care Power of Attorney.

This response is not legal advice, since I do not have all of the information that would be required, and I do not have a representation agreement with you.

* If the answers to your question confirm that you have a valid issue or worthwhile claim, your next step should almost always be to establish a dialog with a lawyer who can provide specific advice to you. Contact a lawyer in your county or township.

* Another reason for contacting a lawyer is that it is often impossible to give a good answer in the Internet Q&A format without having more information. The unique circumstances of your situation and things that you may not have thought to mention in your question may completely change the answer. If you want to be sure that you have a complete answer to your question and an understanding of what that answer means, establish a connection with a lawyer who practices in the area of your concern.

Just to add to the previous answer, you should be able to have a simple will made for $300 or less.
