Legal Question in Business Law in Puerto Rico

Limited Power of Attorney

Where/how can I find a Limited Power of Attorney that will suffice to enable my son to sell a vehicle titled and registered to myself in Puerto Rico? The document need be signed, notarized, witnessed, etc., in Florida, allowing him to make the transaction on my behalf in Puerto Rico.

Re: Limited Power of Attorney

The document must comply with the formal requirement of a power of attorney in FLA. However, the document must also comply with the substantive requirements in PR law for the power of attorney. However, the back of your license has a vehicle transfer notice form which you may fill out notarize and transfer the car to your son's name. The transfer may be registered in the PR DMV and then your son may sell the car without any problems, as long as the transfer is registered. The registration requires payment of certain amounts. However, you may call the PR DMV (they are called CESCO's and are ascribed to the Puerto Rico Public Works Department). You should call to clarify any doubts regarding your translation.
