Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Rhode Island

Bank debt Collection violation

I have been harassed for 2 years by a RI bank for a debt I do not owe them. My phone number was given to the bank as a point of contact by the debtor. The bank would call 10-20 times a day. I finally asked them to stop calling to no evail. Then I started getting numerous hang-up calles. Because I was frightened by them I had the phone company trace the calls. The calls came from this bank. The local police went to the bank and told them to stop calling. This lasted for three of four weeks then it all started up again. I again had to hang-up calls traces and again it was the bank. I am a single women who also suffers from Post traumacitc stress related to a sexual assault. This all has taken a tremendous toll on me. My question is, is the any law I can review that already haws been litigated. Where can I get help.

Re: Bank debt Collection violation

Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and Telephone Harassment laws should both protect you. Without knowing all the facts, I'd be surprised if you couldn't get some serious damage awards. Find a local attorney and ask for help.
