Legal Question in Criminal Law in Rhode Island

how do I erase my criminal records in Rhode Island

When I was young I got in some trouble. However, I am now married with 2 kids and a good job.

I am concerned that i will not get a promotion if they find my criminal record in Rhode Island.

Can I expunge three dismissed charges for driving on a suspended license, possession of marijuana and disorderly conduct?

Can I expunge a misdemeanor, 1 year probation from 1999?

I also got a 1 year filing for domesctic violence in 1995. Can that be expunged?

Do I need a lawyer to complete the expungement process?

Re: how do I erase my criminal records in Rhode Island

Rhode Island has the most liberal expungement laws in the nation. Erasing criminal records will help you find employment or other opportunities. Because the law allows it, you should take advantage of the abilitiy to wipe out your criminal record.

The dismissed Rhode Island (RI) Criminal charges can be expunged. The dismissed charges also should be expunged / erased from your record. A dismissal is essentially the same as a not guilty finding.

The misdemeanor charge in which you were sentenced to one year probation can be expunged. In Rhode Island Misdemeanors Probations can be expunged 5 years after you complete your probation. (Certain crimes of violence cannot be expunged)

Felony convictions or probationary periods cannot be expunged for 10 years after the sentence is completed.

If you have more then one probation, criminal fine suspended sentence, deferred sentence or period of confinement then then you are not eligible for expungement of any of those offenses.

The one year filing can be expunged becuase the one year has passed and you were not violated for your filing during that year.
