asking for internet donations

We have debt from fertility treatments

and would now like to adopt. Is it legal

to set up a website and ask for

donations to pay off the debt and pay

for the adoption?

Asking for money is legal. Just be sure not to mislead anyone about how the funds will be used.

Btw, any funds you receive will be gifts for tax purposes; they may be taxable income for you if they exceed a certain amount and they generally won't be deductible for the contributors the way donations to a charity would be.
