Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in South Carolina

Medical Bill Judgement on Credit

My husband and I live in SC. We were notified of a court date for a medical bill. We called the provider (a local hospital) and set up payments before the court date. We are making the payments on time every month. However, our credit reflects a judgment for this bill but we never went to court. Can we have the judgement removed?

Re: Medical Bill Judgement on Credit

It's possible, but I advise you to contact an attorney immediately, rather than later. If you've settled the bill, and they agreed to dismiss the case pending resolution, then you should be able to have that removed. If the judgment was valid, however, then no. Your payment arrangements are merely the way you intend to satisfy the judgment. It's just impossible to say with this information. A lawyer would have to review the entire file first.
