Legal Question in Criminal Law in South Carolina

Poss of Marijuana

My 20 year-old son, while riding back from Fl with friends, was charged with possession of marijuana when they were pulled. It was not his, not his car. We live in NC and he is in college and never been in any trouble before. Do I need to have a attorney or can I go the PTI route?

Re: Poss of Marijuana

Me again. That's a tricky question. My feeling is if a person has a medical problem they should have a doctor. And if a person has a legal problem they should have a lawyer. People in your son's situation have been sucessful in the past getting PTI on thier own without an attorney. However, I cannot recommend handling it alone. I hate to see anyone spend money on a lawyer if it is not necessary. However, having a lawyer represent him is the safest thing to do and since this is a criminal charge and is very important, then the best thing to do is hire an attorney. What county is this in?
