Women Only!

Me and my wife decided we would join a local health club. We were told she could join but I couldn't because I was male it was a woman only club. Is that legal?

Re: Women Only!

This is a tricky question, because as a rule, discrimination based on gender in public accommodations is prohibited. There are many establishments that are in violation of these provisions and there is some consideration given for having a compiling reason, custom and practices in the location of the club and the industry involved. In circumstance where there is harm resulting from this practice, offended persons are well to pursue legal recourse for civil rights violations. Where there is no harm, complaints may be within their rights to challenge this conduct but the results may not be worth the effort.
