childs name change

if i were to change my sons name to my last name, would his father still be responsible and would my son still receive any benefits from his fathet, we were never married he has not had contact with my son since he was less tha a year old and he is almost 4 now

Merely changing a child's last name does not affect any other rights/obligations, such as child support. Of course, the father must be giving notice of the name change action, and he will have an opportunity to contest it.
