Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

Per the Judge Brown law, the father has access to child's grades, transcripts etc. The mother, who has primary custody, was informed by the child's teacher that the father and his new wife have arranged a meeting with the teacher without the mother's knowledge.

The mother has a problem with the new wife attending the meeting as she is not specifically named in the Judge Brown order. Also, the father has shown little or no interest until the new wife came into the picture. The father and his new wife have done little regarding education support - homework, etc. The new wife is an ex school teacher that was let go of her position. She has been testing the child during visitation with the father.

Question: Is the child's mother able prevent the stepmother from attending the father's meeting with the child's teacher?

If there is no prohibition against the father bringing third parties to school conferences, then he will certainly be allowed to do so. It sounds as though the mother is over-reaching and trying to micro-manage the father's interaction with and access to the child.

These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.
