how do i go about getting a legal separation in south carolina if i was married in north carolina

The State in which you were married does not have anything to do with the State in which you can get divorced or separated. If both you and your spouse have lived in SC for more than three months (or either one of you for over a year), then SC will have jurisdiction to address the separation/divorce.
