being served

my husband lives in tn and i live in charleston and he served me by newspaper in spantanburg sc. i have never been to spartanburg. he mailed the papers to my address in charleston saying i was served and i failed to attend a hearing, and we are divorced and i owe 600.00 mth in child support w/o any visitation or contact. can he do this to me? i dont even have a job currently, i just had a baby in december. this isnt fair!! His lawyer is also married into his family and let him file there without even being a resident for six months. we were both residents of charleston sc. can he really do this?

Re: being served

If the things that you allege are true, then you need to consult with an attorney IMMEDIATELY. You can file a Motion to have the judgment set aside and/or pursue other options, but you only have a VERY LIMITED TIME in which you can do so!

These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.

If you need more information, you can visit my family law blog (www.SCFamilyLaw.com) or our website (www.StevensFirm.com). I wish you the best of luck.
