Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

Do I have to?

My wife and I are seperated and are getting a divorce. We have a 4 year old and she is keeping custody so we have agreed for me to give her $825/month which I have been doing. My grandfather recently passed away and left me some money. Is there any law or am I entitled to give any of this money to my soon to be ex?

Re: Do I have to?

Generally a gift or inheritance is considered to be non-marital property unless you have taken some steps to involve your spouse with it in some way. Without knowing much more detail, it is impossible to answer your question specifically.

If you need more information, you can visit my family law blog (www.SCFamilyLaw.com) or our website (www.StevensFirm.com). I wish you the best of luck.
