Legal Question in Personal Injury in South Carolina

Suspect entered into a retail business after he was placed on a notice of trespass, never to return by city police. Suspect was asked to leave and became confrontational with the store manager and proceeded to attempt to squirt pepper spray in the face of the store manager. The store manager grappled with the suspect while the cashier notified the police of the disturbance. The store manager subdued the suspect until the police arrived. The store manager suffered minor, superficial injuries (i.e. carpet burns, scrapes). The store manager was told that the suspect would be charged with trespass after notice and simple assault. The question is can the store manager sue the suspect for assault?
