Legal Question in Personal Injury in South Carolina

switching lawyers

i was in an accident (car) and it was no fault of mine or the driver of our vehicle. i was hurt badly and was in bed when the driver chose a lawyer for us. i am very unhappy and displeased with this lawyer and i would like to procede with another lawyer which i feel comfortable with. not much has been done (i am still in several doctors' care) but the accident was almost a year ago. is it legal or okay to change lawyers and what would that involve?

Re: switching lawyers

You have the right to switch lawyers. Exactly what would be involved depends on your writen agreement with that lawyer. I would have to ask several questions in order to guide you. You are welcome to call or email me. You can look up my number on this site as it will not allow me to type it into this answer. Robert Johnston [email protected]

Re: switching lawyers

You can certainly change lawyers. You need to release the current lawyer, and then your new attorney can get a copy of your file from the old lawyer.

If you want additional information, you can visit my personal injury law blog (www.SCPILaw.com) or our firm website (www.StevensFirm.com). If we can assist you further, please do not hesitate to contact our office.

Thanks and good luck, Ben Stevens
